Di_stanze is a composition in which the author sought to explore various relationships of segregation and attraction between gestures generated by the clarinet and those of the electronics. The phrases were crafted based on an intuitive criterion of continuous and dynamic balance between opposing forces [tension and release], [attraction and rejection] that develop between the instrument and the electronics. Unconventional articulations and performance practices play a fundamental role in this composition, as the clarinet is treated on the same level as the electronic material. Techniques such as slap tongue, filtering, muted sounds, repeated notes, clusters, air sounds without pitch, and key noise are combined with aleatoric notation focused on the representation of electronic gestures.
The electronics operate between two alternating perspectival levels: figure and background. At times, they take on the role of an “echoing voice” of the materials introduced by the clarinet, while at others they serve as a generator of elements later elaborated by the clarinet. Imitation, phrase interpolations, and the very idea of homogeneity play a crucial role in the electronic orchestration, which incorporates spectral transformation processes as modulatory bridges linking all the proposed materials.
